Medal Tests

Medal test awards are held at the dance school or a suitable hall or venue.

For medals the parents/relatives are an audience.

Pupils taking a medal are dressed in costume to fit the mood of the music and subject being taken.

Medal days are the teachers own choice of dances and music.

New schools and pupils will start at the beginning with bronze 1st standard level and work their way through accordingly.

Long standing established schools who need to set a standard can phone or e-mail for advice.

The teacher chooses the music and it is their choreography and interpretation.

Medals are invaluable in boosting the confidence of the participating pupils, and helps in developing stage presence and awareness.

The tests can be taken in any format.

Example of Medal tests

Here is an example of how the medal days work.

You may have 10 bronze medal soloists in a given subject, say ballet. They will dance one at a time or in any other format; having been announced as bronze medal ballet and if the dance has a title this can be given out as well.

When they have finished their performance they will curtsey and leave the floor or stage and the next child or children will be announced. When all the medallists in the section have danced they will line up on the dance area.
the adjudicator for the day will stand and bring them forward by name. The adjudicator will then say a few words of encouragement and remarks about their performance. They will get a comment sheet a certificate and medal.
The adjudicators comments will al ways be of a positive nature.

Small sessions may have the adjudication at the end of the disciplines.

A teacher may want to mix exams and medals. You can have exams in the morning and medals in the afternoon. This helps small and young schools grow.

Please note:
If a school puts forward different levels in any medal subject say for example,
5 bronze medal tap, 7 silver medals tap, and so on.

The dance for each level must be different and of a higher standard.

This allows the adjudicator to assess a standard level and also aids the teacher to establish a standard of merit with-in their school.

To book an exam and or medal day simply phone head office with your preferred date. Once you have booked your date head office must receive your entries at least 5 wks prior to the exam date.
